OpenAI’s new feature offers over 50 real-world prompts inspired by students from IIT Madras, MAHE, and Delhi Technical Campus, designed to enhance study habits, time management, and career readiness among Indian learners
OpenAI has introduced ‘Chats for Students in India’, a dedicated initiative designed to help college students across the country use ChatGPT for studying, skill-building, and daily academic activities. Announced on October 27, the program builds on the recent launch of ChatGPT’s ‘Study Mode’ in India, expanding the platform’s focus on education and student productivity.
According to OpenAI, the new feature includes over 50 real-world prompts inspired by actual use cases from students at premier institutions like IIT Madras, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), and Delhi Technical Campus. The curated prompts aim to help learners improve their study habits, manage time efficiently, and prepare for future career opportunities.
“ChatGPT is now one of the largest learning platforms globally. Over 50% of our users in India are under 24, making students a key audience,” said Leah Belsky, VP of Education at OpenAI, during the company’s India learning accelerator event in August.
Practical AI for study and career growth
The ‘Chats for Students in India’ webpage categorizes prompts into themes like exam preparation, project assistance, skill development, career planning, and decision-making. Students can explore examples such as:
· Creating a study schedule using spaced repetition
· Developing a study guide from uploaded notes
· Designing a proof of concept for a project
· Crafting a plan to secure internships
· Using ChatGPT as a study partner to clarify concepts
Each prompt is ready to use — students simply click, open it in ChatGPT, and begin interacting instantly.
Free access for Indian students
The platform is free for all ChatGPT users in India, reflecting OpenAI’s broader vision to make AI tools more accessible to learners. As per the 2025 Mary Meeker Internet Trends Report, India accounts for 13.5% of global ChatGPT mobile users, the highest share worldwide — underscoring the country’s growing adoption of AI-driven learning solutions.
