In a major push to expand its footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets, OpenAI has announced free access to ChatGPT Go for users in India for one year, starting November 4. The offer coincides with the company’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, aimed at engaging developers, researchers, and AI enthusiasts from across the country.
ChatGPT Go, OpenAI’s premium version of its flagship chatbot, runs on the latest GPT-5 model and delivers enhanced features compared to the standard version. It offers faster responses, higher daily message limits, extended memory, and the ability to upload and analyze images, PDFs, and other files. The tool also supports visual generation and complex data handling, allowing professionals, educators, and creators to work more efficiently.
With these features, ChatGPT Go enables users to fully leverage OpenAI’s latest conversational and creative capabilities—without the constraints of the free plan.
India at the core of OpenAI’s growth
Announcing the offer, Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, said the initiative celebrates India’s “enthusiasm and creativity” toward AI adoption. India has rapidly become ChatGPT’s second-largest user base, with paid subscriptions doubling within a month of ChatGPT Go’s launch in August.
All users signing up during the promotional window will receive a year of free access, while existing subscribers will also be included, with OpenAI expected to announce the redemption process shortly.
Strengthening ties with India’s AI ecosystem
The move aligns with OpenAI’s India-first strategy, complementing the government’s IndiaAI Mission, which seeks to drive innovation and AI adoption across sectors. OpenAI is also strengthening its local presence, with new offices planned in New Delhi and Bengaluru to support developers and enterprises.
By offering one year of complimentary access to ChatGPT Go, OpenAI not only underscores India’s growing role in the global AI landscape but also aims to democratize access to cutting-edge AI tools for millions of new users.
