Over 16 Lakh EVs Benefit from Fame-II Scheme as India Advances Toward Sustainable Mobility
2025-01-06
India places Greater emphasis on providing Environment safe Public Transport options for Masses.
The Indian government has extended incentives to over 16.15 lakh electric vehicles (EVs) under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (Fame-II) scheme, reaffirming its commitment to green mobility. Introduced in 2019, Fame-II supports the adoption of electric transportation by offering subsidies across various EV categories, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and electric buses.
Additionally, the scheme funds the development of electric vehicle public charging stations (EV PCS), addressing critical infrastructure gaps in the transition to sustainable transportation.
The Fame-II initiative complements India's broader sustainability goals, which include reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change. Additional measures, such as a reduced Goods and Services Tax (GST) on EVs and state-level EV policies, enhance the incentives provided by the central government. This multi-pronged approach aims to increase EV penetration in the country, making green transportation more accessible and affordable.
The success of the Fame-II scheme underscores India’s steady progress in fostering a clean mobility ecosystem. By promoting EV adoption and establishing essential infrastructure, the initiative helps position India as a leader in sustainable transportation solutions on the global stage.
