The AI-first browser integrates search, voice interaction, and productivity tools directly into the browsing experience, aiming to redefine how users interact with web content on mobile devices.
Perplexity AI has expanded its AI-powered browser, Comet, to iPhone users, marking its entry into the competitive mobile browsing space. The rollout follows earlier launches on desktop platforms and Android, as the company seeks to position Comet as a next-generation alternative to traditional browsers.
Designed as an AI-first platform, Comet combines conventional browsing capabilities with built-in artificial intelligence tools. Unlike standard browsers that rely on separate apps or plugins for advanced functions, Comet embeds AI-driven features directly into its interface, enabling users to search, analyse, and interact with content seamlessly.
Built-in AI assistant and voice interaction
At the core of Comet is an integrated assistant that helps users perform tasks such as summarising articles, answering queries, and extracting insights from web pages without leaving the browser. This reduces the need to switch between multiple applications, streamlining the overall browsing experience.
The browser also introduces a voice-enabled mode, allowing users to interact through spoken commands. This feature works across multiple tabs, enabling continuous conversations while browsing. By blending voice interaction with real-time navigation, Comet aims to create a more intuitive and hands-free experience.
Hybrid search and productivity focus
Comet offers a hybrid search model that combines traditional search engine results with AI-generated responses. This approach is designed to deliver quick answers for everyday queries while supporting more detailed research tasks within the same interface.
Built on a Chromium-based framework, the browser supports familiar features such as bookmarks and extensions, ensuring compatibility with widely used tools. At the same time, it enhances productivity by integrating AI capabilities for content analysis and workflow management.
Unlike browsers like Google Chrome or Safari, which primarily focus on navigation, Comet aims to merge browsing, search, and assistant functions into a unified experience.
With its iPhone debut, Perplexity is betting on growing demand for AI-driven tools, positioning Comet as a platform that transforms how users engage with information on the web.
