Sony-owned PlayStation has announced price increases for its subscription service, PlayStation Plus, which will also impact Indian users. In a post on X, the company said that from May 20 onwards, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers will increase in select regions. The post noted that this price change does not apply to current subscribers unless their existing subscription changes or lapses.
According to Sony, the changes are being introduced due to “market conditions.” The company, however, has not provided a detailed explanation regarding the latest revision in subscription pricing.
The basic monthly PlayStation Plus subscription will now cost £7.99, $10.99, and €9.99 depending on the region. This marks an increase of £1, $1, and €1 respectively over the previous pricing.
The three-month subscription plan is also becoming more expensive. Users will now pay £21.99, $27.99, and €27.99 for the quarterly plan after an increase of £3, $3, and €3.
The announcement comes at a time when gaming companies are dealing with higher manufacturing and operational costs. Sony recently increased PlayStation 5 console prices in several regions, citing pressure in the global economic environment.
Notably, Microsoft-owned Xbox has reduced prices of its subscriptions under similar conditions.
PlayStation Plus currently offers access to online multiplayer gaming, monthly downloadable titles, cloud storage, and exclusive discounts on the PlayStation Store. The service operates under three different tiers — Essential, Extra, and Premium — with varying benefits and game catalog access.
