Steve Ballmer may have stepped down as Microsoft's(NASDAQ:MSFT) CEO in January this year, but he continues to remain on the company's board of directors.
However, his continuance in the board will depend on "how he sees his life playing out".In an interview to The Wall Street Journal, Ballmer said, “It really as much as anything depends on how I see rest of my life playing out,” said Ballmer, referring to how long he'll stay on the board. “I get to find some new set of things to be passionate about. I’m going to take some time and really figure it out.”

Ballmer who joined Microsoft on June 11, 1980, decided to keep his board seat after stepping down as the company's CEO paving the way to Satya Nadella. Ballmer has about 4 percent of Microsoft’s stock valued at more than $13 billion USD.
Even if Ballmer were to say goodbye to Microsoft’s board, he would continue to follow the company closely. "I own 4 percent of Microsoft. I care a lot about my child. And my investment," said Ballmer said at the Said Business School at the University of Oxford, his first public appearance after stepping down as Microsoft’s CEO, a role he held for 14 years.
