Snowflake announced that Swiggy is using Snowflake as its unified data foundation. The platform enables Swiggy to democratize data-driven insights across marketing and operations, helping teams respond to customer needs in real time and drive business execution at scale.
As Swiggy expanded rapidly across food delivery, Instamart, and Dineout to serve millions of customers, deriving actionable insights from fragmented data became increasingly challenging. The company needed a unified data-serving layer capable of handling peak workloads seamlessly. It also wanted to provide teams with simple, self-service access to insights, reducing their reliance on centralized data teams.
By building a centralized analytical layer on Snowflake with Apache Iceberg, Swiggy has transformed its data ecosystem and significantly improved performance. The integrated foundation reduced the company’s slowest data workflows by 90% to 96%. It also cut the processing time for its most resource-intensive queries from two hours to 15 minutes, while reducing data processing times from six hours to near real time.
These performance improvements have helped teams across Swiggy accelerate daily operations. Marketing teams can now create and launch targeted campaigns directly through their existing tools. Product and engineering teams use standardized metrics to assess experimental features before launch through an in-house platform running on Snowflake.
Operational teams can monitor service-quality metrics in real time, allowing them to proactively address delivery and logistics issues. Finance teams, meanwhile, have gained workload-level visibility into technology spending.
Throughout the business, security features like role-based access, column masking, and row-level security enable both internal teams and external partners to interact with data safely using masked data. Snowflake’s governance framework further helps ensure that AI-powered agents and applications inherit the same permission boundaries, short-lived credentials, and audit trails required of human employees.
“At Swiggy, data is valuable only when it reaches the person who can act on it, whether that is a city sales manager, restaurant owner or delivery partner. With Snowflake, we are making trusted, governed insights easier to access while ensuring that every user and AI agent operates within the same permissions and audit framework,” said Madhusudhan Rao, Chief Technology Officer- Swiggy.
"India's fastest-moving companies can't afford to route every data question through a central team. With Snowflake, Swiggy has built a centralised, governed data foundation, consistent controls, and an AI framework that holds agents to the same standards as people. This approach is helping Swiggy create a path toward more capable and accountable AI agents,” said Vijayant Rai, Managing Director- India, Snowflake.
