The Rise of the Cockroach Movement
The Cockroach Janta Party began as satire after remarks by Chief Justice Surya Kant comparing certain individuals to “cockroaches” triggered public outrage.
Though he later clarified the statement targeted fake degree holders, the controversy had already spread online.
And What followed surprised everyone….
Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old Indian student in the US, launched the Cockroach Janta Party as a protest.
Within days, it exploded across social media, drawing millions of supporters from frustrated Gen-Z citizens.
Behind the memes lies deep anger over unemployment, rising insecurity, and shrinking trust in institutions.
Many young Indians believe their future is being shaped by systems that no longer feel transparent or accountable.
The movement has especially raised questions about judicial accountability.
Critics argue that post-retirement political appointments and growing executive influence risk weakening judicial independence, one of democracy’s most important safeguards.
For Gen-Z, this is no longer just internet humor.
It is a demand for transparency, institutional integrity, and a judiciary that remains independent.
Judicial accountability is not optional anymore…… It is non-negotiable.
