The technical committee appointed by the Supreme Court to investigate the alleged use of Pegasus spyware to snoop on phones of politicians, activists and journalists, has sought information from people who suspect their phones were targeted.
The public notice was issued to request any citizen of India who may have felt her/his mobile device that may have been infected by Pegasus malware. It said, “In case the committee feels your reasons for suspicion of the device being infected with the malware compel a further investigation, then the committee shall request you to allow examination of your device.”
The committee has asked citizens who feel that they are targets of Pegasus spyware to send an email. People who write in will also have to specify reasons as to why they believe their devices have been infected by Pegasus spyware.
The Pegasus scandal had triggered a controversy last year and the Israeli spyware was alleged to have been used to target Opposition politicians, journalists and activists.
