Trump Mobile has delayed plans to ship its gold-colored smartphone, the T1, originally promised by the end of the year. The device is part of a new U.S. mobile service launched in June after Donald Trump’s family business licensed the Trump name, marking another effort by the president’s children to monetize the brand.
According to the company’s customer service team, the recent U.S. government shutdown disrupted shipments, creating a “strong possibility” that the handset will not be delivered this month. Trump Mobile did not immediately respond to requests for comment. While the company has promoted the T1 as a gold-colored phone priced at $499, it has not disclosed the manufacturer—an open question given the limited domestic smartphone production in the U.S.
Trump Mobile also rolled out a wireless plan priced at $47.45 per month. Customers can reserve the phone with a $100 pre-booking fee, though delivery timelines now appear uncertain.
The delay comes in a highly saturated U.S. smartphone market dominated by Apple and Samsung. Nearly all smartphones sold in the country are manufactured overseas, primarily in China, South Korea, and increasingly India and Vietnam—underscoring the challenges new entrants face in both production and distribution.
