The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new set of Aadhaar update rules effective November 1, 2025, to streamline and digitize the process of updating Aadhaar information for citizens. The revised system allows users to update key demographic details—such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number—entirely online via the myAadhaar portal, provided their registered mobile number is active.
This digital-first move eliminates the need to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendras for most updates, easing queues, paperwork, and delays. However, biometric updates—including fingerprint, iris, and photograph changes—will still require in-person verification to ensure accuracy and prevent misuse.
To strengthen data integrity, UIDAI will implement automated cross-verification through linked government databases like PAN, passport, and ration card records, minimizing manual intervention and fraud risks.
As part of the overhaul, UIDAI has revised its fee structure: online demographic updates will be free until June 14, 2026, after which a ₹75 fee will apply. Biometric updates will cost ₹125, with exemptions for specific age groups, such as children during their first biometric update cycle.
Additionally, UIDAI reaffirmed the December 31, 2025 deadline for Aadhaar-PAN linking, warning that failure to comply may result in PAN deactivation and disruption of tax-related services.
The new rules reinforce India’s commitment to digital governance, paperless citizen services, and secure identity management, combining AI-enabled verification with robust biometric safeguards to improve accuracy, security, and user convenience.
