VIA has launched a small form factor notebook, which the company tags as Nanobook. It is a perfect product for travelling as it is very light with five hours of power backup.
Â
Richard Brown, Vice-President – Marketing, VIA Technologies, says, “The response has been very good. Whoever is looking at this product, he is asking to buy it.”
Â
VIA was advocated for Thin clients in India for a long time. Sanjay Peer, Director – Channel Sales, VIA Technologies, says, “We are very successful in this space as well. And, Thin Client is also gagood market for itself. Today, SBI has moved to Thin Client environment, apart from Bank of Maharashtra, Bank of Karnataka, etc. The Indian hospitality industry has also adopted Thin Clients.”
Â
He adds, “Today, hardware and software is changing over the last five years time. In India, there is a lot of broad band compared to five years back. We feel there is a huge change for Thin Client in India.”
Â
Thin Client is not for the consumers. But, with Nanobook, VIA has a lot for the consumers. Richard says, “The mobile market is moving pretty faster in the desktop device space. Probably in 2008-09, it will overtake fixed desktop systems market in terms of volume. The present form factor Nanobook we have launched is just the beginning; we will have more products in future with a variety – in terms of form factor, connectivity, application, etc.”
Â
The company is trying to finalize on the distribution model, including mulling over having a focussed partner in India.
Â
Richard says, “India is a top priority market. After China, India is the second largest market. We have only 6 people in India and we will continue to add another 8 more people soon. Since the last one year’s time, we have been very focussed in this market.”
Â
He added, “We have launched many programmes, including EDP managers programme, end-customers’ manager programme, etc. We are talking to the users and trying to get as many inputs as possible. For Think Clients, we are doing a PoC.”
Â
VIA is a fab-less company. The company does not manufacture any other product.
