Xiaomi has cautioned consumers that smartphone prices may increase soon as global memory chip costs continue to surge. The company revealed that the prices of DRAM and NAND flash memory—critical components in smartphones—have risen sharply due to supply shortages, growing AI hardware demand, and constrained production pipelines across major chip manufacturers.
Industry analysts note that DRAM prices have jumped by nearly 30–40% in recent months, while NAND prices have also seen double-digit growth. This spike is driven by a combination of limited factory output, increased demand for AI-driven devices, and recovery in consumer electronics markets. As a result, smartphone makers face mounting pressure on production costs.
Xiaomi stated that it has already absorbed a part of the increased component expenses but may be forced to adjust retail prices if costs continue to rise. This could affect both budget and premium models, particularly devices with higher RAM and storage configurations.
The company emphasized that it will try to keep prices stable for as long as possible, but market forces may make price corrections unavoidable. Consumers planning to purchase new smartphones may face higher costs in the coming months as the global chip supply chain remains tight and unpredictable.
