The Government of Maharashtra has taken a major step in strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem by allotting 100 acres of prime land in Navi Mumbai to RRP Electronics Ltd., a prominent player in the semiconductor industry. The allotment comes as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis handed over the Letter of Comfort, supporting RRP’s plan to set up a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication (fab) facility with a production capacity of 1.25 lakh wafers per month.
RRP Electronics, backed by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, is set to become a key contributor to India’s Semiconductor Mission. The relocation of this fab from one of the world's established semiconductor hubs in Sherman, Texas, to Navi Mumbai reflects the growing confidence in Make in India, electronics manufacturing, and high-tech industrial development.
Chief Minister Fadnavis praised the initiative, stating, “This land allotment positions Maharashtra as a semiconductor hub, and our government is committed to providing infrastructure support, policy facilitation, and skill development to ensure this project’s success. The initiative will drive industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and strengthen supply chains in advanced electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.”
RRP Electronics Chairman Rajendra Chodankar expressed gratitude to the state government, saying, “We appreciate the continued support from the Government of Maharashtra. This is a landmark step towards building a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem in India and accelerating innovation-driven growth.”
This development follows the launch of Maharashtra’s first OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility in Navi Mumbai last year. With this new fab, Maharashtra is set to reinforce its leadership in semiconductor fabrication, electronics R&D, and global value chains, making India a strategic player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
The expansion of RRP’s operations aligns with India’s broader goals of enhancing electronic exports, technological advancement, and skilled workforce development, contributing to long-term economic growth and global competitiveness in the semiconductor sector.
