As per news report, Meta Platforms has taken over humanoid robotics startup Assured Robot Intelligence as a part of its broader push into artificial intelligence and robotics. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
It is reported that the acquired company specialises in building advanced robotic intelligence systems that enable robots to understand, anticipate, and adapt to human behaviour in complex real-world settings.
Also known as ARI, the startup had been developing foundation models for humanoid robots designed to carry out physical tasks such as household chores. Its team, including co-founders Xiaolong Wang and Lerrel Pinto, will join Meta Platforms’ AI division, Superintelligence Labs.
Before co-founding ARI, Wang was associated with Nvidia as a researcher and served as an academic at the University of California, San Diego. Lerrel Pinto has also held academic roles and previously co-founded a robotics startup that was later acquired by Amazon.
Meta Platforms said the ARI team brings strong expertise in robot control and self-learning systems, capabilities that will support its long-term ambition of building advanced humanoid robots. The company has been investing in this area for several years.
Reports indicate that Meta Platforms is exploring both software and hardware for consumer-oriented humanoid robots, although it has not yet announced any official product.
Experts believe that achieving artificial general intelligence may require training AI systems in the physical world, where robots can learn through direct interaction rather than relying only on data.
The acquisition comes as competition in robotics increases. Industry forecasts vary widely, highlighting both the strong potential and uncertainty surrounding the field.
