The AI “Big Bang” Study 2025 has captured global attention, including a feature by Elon Musk, and for good reason. The study reveals the staggering scale of AI adoption worldwide.
Between August 2024 and July 2025, more than 10,500 AI tools recorded close to 100 billion web visits, underscoring the explosive growth of this sector. At the center of the boom are AI chatbots.
The top 10 chatbots collectively logged 55.88 billion visits, a 123% YoY increase, and now account for 58.8% of all AI traffic. This makes conversational AI the clear frontrunner in the adoption race.
ChatGPT remains the market leader with 46.59B visits (+106% YoY), a 48.36% share, 26.2M App Store reviews, and 2.4M media citations, solidifying its dominance.
The surprise story, however, is Elon Musk’s Grok, which surged to second place. It skyrocketed from near-zero to 686.9M visits (+1,343,408% YoY), along with 1.4M reviews and 319.5K media mentions.
Meanwhile, Gemini ranked third with 1.66B visits (+156% YoY), while Claude stood out for the longest average session at 16 minutes 44 seconds. In contrast, DeepSeek stumbled, losing 39.5% traffic in five months after its February peak.
The study also found a strong correlation between media coverage and traffic spikes, highlighting the press’s critical role in shaping AI adoption.
