Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched the 'MahaChatur Artificial Intelligence chatbot', which aims to streamline the journey from education to employment, providing a unified platform for skill development, job opportunities, and entrepreneurial guidance. CM Fadnavis, while speaking at the launch, highlighted India’s "demographic advantage", noting that 65 per cent of the population is under 35. He stated that industries are looking for skilled manpower, and youth are looking for jobs, and that the 'MahaChatur chatbot' will serve as a vital bridge between the two.
Developed by the Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department in collaboration with the Right Walk Foundation, MahaChatur is designed as a conversational AI assistant that simplifies access to multiple government and industry-linked services. The platform operates on government servers using open-source AI technology, ensuring both accessibility and data security.
A key feature of MahaChatur is its availability through WhatsApp-based access, allowing users from both rural and urban areas to interact easily without requiring any specialized application. The chatbot is designed to respond in a simple conversational format, helping users explore skill training programmes, job opportunities, apprenticeship schemes, and entrepreneurship guidance in one place.

The platform also offers assistance with application procedures, eligibility verification, assessments, and market linkages, positioning it as a comprehensive digital guide for young people. It brings together apprenticeship registration under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and the Maharashtra Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (MAPS), cutting processing time dramatically from two to three days to about 15 minutes.
Officials stated that MahaChatur will function as a one-stop solution for employment-related services, helping bridge the gap between job seekers and industry needs. It is expected to enable industries to access a skilled workforce more efficiently, while ensuring that young individuals receive training aligned with market demands.

At the launch event, Fadnavis underscored India’s demographic advantage, pointing out that nearly 65% of the population is under 35 years of age, making skill development vital for economic progress. He added that the chatbot will serve as a digital link between education and employment, smoothing the transition for youth entering the workforce.
The government also highlighted that while AI may disrupt certain roles, it is equally likely to generate new job opportunities. This initiative forms part of a wider push to strengthen Maharashtra’s skill ecosystem through centres of excellence, modernization of ITIs, increased participation of women, and global collaborations.
