A new World Economic Forum report reveals that artificial intelligence (AI) is a transformative force in cybersecurity, with 94% of cyber leaders acknowledging its significance. Currently, 77% of organizations have adopted AI in their cyber operations, marking a shift from pilot programs to practical applications in the field.
The report, titled AI and Cyber: Empowering Defenders, developed in collaboration with KPMG, outlines substantial benefits resulting from AI adoption, including cost reductions of up to $1.9 million per breach and an 80-day decrease in breach lifecycles. While cybercriminals increasingly weaponize AI for malicious activities, organizations that implement AI strategically gain a competitive edge.
Akshay Joshi, Head of the Centre for Cybersecurity at the World Economic Forum, states that AI can empower defenders when viewed as a strategic capability rather than just a tool. The report highlights practical examples, such as KPMG's 25% increase in operational efficiency in threat intelligence.
As cyber threats become more sophisticated, the report emphasizes the need for organizations to invest in AI as a foundational security capability, prioritizing governance, skills, and processes to effectively combat these challenges.
