Next month, AirPods Max will become the only headphones that enable musicians to both create and mix in Personalised Spatial Audio with head tracking.
Apple has announced a significant AirPods Max update, introducing lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio via a software upgrade starting in April 2024. This update marks a major enhancement in AirPods Max sound quality, addressing a long-standing demand from users.
Since its 2020 launch, the Apple AirPods Max has been praised for its premium build and high-fidelity sound, but it lacked wireless lossless audio support—even though Apple Music introduced lossless streaming in 2021. The upcoming update finally bridges this gap, allowing users to experience higher-resolution sound without compression.

With the included USB-C cable, users can experience high-quality audio across music, movies, and games, while music creators will benefit from enhanced songwriting, beat-making, production, and mixing capabilities. Apple Music subscribers will gain access to a library of over 100 million songs in lossless audio, delivering an authentic studio-quality sound experience.
Additionally, the ultra-low latency audio feature will be particularly useful for musicians and audio professionals, enabling seamless recording, mixing, and real-time sound monitoring. Gamers and livestreamers can also benefit from ultra-low latency audio, which significantly lowers lag time, and is on par with the native built-in speakers on Mac, iPad, and iPhone. With no response delay, gameplay and livestreaming become reliably smooth and even more immersive for users.
While Apple hasn’t confirmed all technical details, this AirPods Max audio upgrade is expected to elevate the Apple AirPods sound experience, making them a stronger competitor in the premium headphone market.
