Google announces to delete unused accounts
2023-05-17Alphabet Inc owned Google has announced that it would delete unused accounts to avoid security threats including hack. The accounts must be unused for two years starting from December.
According to the company, if a Google account is inactive or not signed in for the last two years, the company may delete the account and content across Google Workspace, which includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet and Calendar, as well as YouTube and Google Photos.
This policy is only applicable to personal Google Accounts and not to those for organizations like schools or businesses.
Earlier in 2020, Google announced that it would remove content stored in an inactive account, but not delete the account itself.
Multiple notifications to account email address and also recovery mail of the inactive accounts will be sent by Google before deletion.
