Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Google is exploring investment opportunities in India spanning AI infrastructure as well as the manufacturing of servers and drones, after discussions with Google executives.
“Google is exploring investments in India across AI infrastructure and the manufacturing of servers and drones,” Vaishnaw said in a post on X.
The announcement comes weeks after Google began work on its $15-billion AI hub in Visakhapatnam in partnership with AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra. The project involves gigawatt-scale computing infrastructure, data centres, and subsea cable connectivity, making it one of the largest AI infrastructure investments in India to date. Ashwini Vaishnaw said the development will cover nearly 600 acres across Turluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram in Andhra Pradesh. The minister also outlined three key priorities for industry partners, including a call for companies to manufacture servers locally to support the growing scale of upcoming data centres. He noted that several domestic firms already produce high-quality, cost-competitive systems - a push that closely aligns with the emerging India investment plans of Google.
Last month, Sundar Pichai announced a $185 billion capital expenditure plan for 2026. Speaking at the Google Cloud Next 2026 summit, he said more than 50% of Google’s machine learning compute capacity will now be dedicated to its cloud business.See What’s Next in Tech With the Fast Forward Newsletter
