Google Photos has introduced new templates, preset music options and a redesigned video editor aimed at helping users quickly create polished highlight reels and edit videos more intuitively across Android and iOS devices.
Google Photos has launched a fresh set of features designed to make video creation simpler and more dynamic. The update, announced this week, includes specialized templates with preset music tracks and text overlays, enabling users to craft professional-looking highlight reels within seconds. The rollout has begun on Android devices, where users can select a template, choose their preferred photos and video clips, and let Google Photos automatically assemble a reel synced to the rhythm of the selected music.
The new tools are intended to streamline the highlight reel process, helping users compile memorable moments—from holidays to celebrations—more efficiently. To create a reel, users can navigate to the Create tab and select “Highlight Video,” where the app handles the editing automatically.
Redesigned video editor introduced across platforms
Alongside the templates, Google Photos has released a redesigned video editor for both Android and iOS. This revamped editor features a more intuitive “universal timeline,” giving users a consolidated view of all clips, images and elements included in their project.
The editor also introduces an “adaptive canvas,” which adjusts the editing workspace according to the user’s content or workflow needs. With the upgrade, users can add music and text directly to individual clips, offering greater flexibility and creative control.
Google says the redesigned video editor will become the default editing tool on Android, marking a significant step in improving the app’s video creation capabilities.
