Google reveals Gemini-powered Googlebook
Google has come up with a new category of laptops built around Gemini – Googlebook, the company’s flagship AI model family. The company has collaborated with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to launch the first range of Googlebooks in multiple designs and form factors later this fall.
Googlebook, set to launch this fall, is the first laptop platform designed from the ground up around Gemini. It aims to deliver more personal, intelligent, and proactive assistance to users.
A key feature of the new devices is “Magic Pointer,” an AI-powered cursor integrated with Gemini. Instead of functioning as a conventional pointer, the feature offers contextual suggestions based on what appears on the screen.
“We thought, we can take Gemini Intelligence and make the pointer truly smart and intelligent,” said Alexander Kuscher, Google’s Senior Director of Android tablets and laptops, in a briefing with reporters. “As you wiggle and you move over the screen, it will tell you what it can interact with, and contextually offer you the actions that you can do … It really exemplifies how we think about AI features throughout Googlebooks. It’s built in, but not in your face.”
The new laptops will also be compatible with Android phones, allowing people to use apps from their phone directly from their Googlebook.
In addition, the platform will enable users to access, search, and insert files stored on their smartphones directly through the Googlebook file browser.
The laptops will also support Google’s new “Create your Widget” capability, which allows users to build customized widgets using Gemini prompts. Gemini can pull information from the web and integrate with services such as Gmail and Google Calendar to create personalized dashboards.
