Microsoft didn’t do the mobile operating system well enough. As most of the things are happening in the sector of mobility. Bill Gates, Founder of Microsoft said he felt very sorry for missing out on the mobile operating system.
I made mistakes there that I regret, ”said Gates in an exclusive interview with Anant Goenka, Executive Director of the Indian Express Group.
This is not the first time Gates has spoken of the missed opportunity regarding mobile operating systems. In a 2019 interview with Village Global, a venture capital firm, Gates called it his “biggest mistake” that mobile software was something Microsoft should, of course, have won.
Gates also discussed Big Tech's role in polarisation in societies and said the governments must decide engagement rules and make them clear to tech firms.
While Windows Mobile OS has been around since 2000, it never quite caught on as Android. Windows 10 Mobile was announced in 2015, but it had no impact on the market either. Microsoft officially ended support for its mobile operating system in 2019.
