How do you see the Indian telecom market today? What is your future growth perspective in this market?

The Indian telecommunication market is growing and this growth is an exemplary one. The industry is the third-largest telecommunication network in the world and the second - largest in terms of wireless communication. With an increasing growth rate of 21% annually in the next two years, it is expected that wireless subscribers will cross 800 million subscribers. We envisage that many Indian companies will make a foray in this sector and we can help them with our expertise.

On the technology front, India is advancing with the inclusion of various technological applications such as 3G and WiMAX. Such wireless technologies globally have expanded the need for most advanced mobile designer handsets and software applications which show great potential for Longcheer's growth in India.

How much do your Indian operations contribute to your overall global business?

Mobile designing is a pretty new concept in India. We have just started our designing base here and expect this would contribute positively to our overall global business.

Can you name some of your major clients that you are working for? Have you tied up with any handset vendor in the country?

In India, we have recently designed Y100, Y90 and Y23 for Wynncom, the mobile handset brand launched by Luminous. Besides, we also provide behind the curtain design solutions to several other brands in India. A lot many partnerships are also in the offing, but that would be revealed as time draws near.

Where do you have your R&D unit? Are you planning to set up R&D anywhere in India?

With a team of 30-40 experts, Longcheer set up its design centre in Noida in April 2010. The centre aims to design handsets to meet the requirements of Indian consumers.  In addition, Longcheer has its telecommunication laboratory in Shanghai, specializing in environmental issues, fatigue testing, LCD optics, audio testing, etc.
