NEC Corp may spend up to $4.4 billion on acquisitions

Japan's NEC Corporations’ CEO Takayuki Morita said that the company could spend up to 500 billion yen over the next five years on acquisitions in order to boost its technology offerings, including 5G mobile broadband. He further said "It's natural that we would have 500 billion yen in investment capacity.”

NEC provides IT systems and network systems to local governments, medical institutions, electric power companies and others, while operating branch offices throughout Japan and developing business closely related to each region.

It also provides IT and network solutions, including cloud computing, AI, IoT platform, and telecommunications equipment and software, to business enterprises, communications services providers and to government agencies, and has also been the biggest PC vendor in Japan since the 1980s, when it launched the PC-8000 series.

NEC was involved in efforts to modernize the country’s communications infrastructure because of its strategic position as the main supplier of equipment to Japan’s Ministry of Communication.
