A recent report by Deloitte reveals that 92% of Indian executives consider security vulnerabilities as the primary challenge in adopting AI responsibly. The report, titled AI at a Crossroads: Building Trust as the Path to Scale, surveyed 900 senior leaders across 13 markets and emphasized the need for robust governance frameworks to build trust and address risks in an increasingly AI-driven world.

The survey highlights that security issues, including hacking and cyber threats, are top concerns for Indian executives, with 91% also expressing significant worries about the privacy risks related to sensitive data in AI systems. Moreover, 89% of respondents noted that regulatory uncertainties and evolving compliance requirements pose additional hurdles to AI integration.

The need for effective AI governance is urgent, with over half of technology workers believing their workplaces are unprepared to handle AI-related risks. According to Jayant Saran, Partner at Deloitte India, "For Indian organisations, the focus should be on integrating AI into existing systems while addressing both technical and knowledge gaps. This will ensure sustainable adoption and necessitate continuous upskilling and cross-functional collaboration."

Despite these challenges, there is optimism within the industry. Approximately 60% of the workforce in surveyed companies possesses the necessary skills for ethical AI usage, and 72% are working to fill the gap by hiring professionals with expertise in AI ethics. This proactive approach is key to ensuring a responsible AI adoption process.

Indian executives are optimistic about the potential of effective AI governance, with 63% believing it will lead to higher trust in AI-generated results. By fostering trust through strong governance and ethical practices, businesses can mitigate risks, drive innovation, and enhance their reputation in an AI-driven landscape.
