With the semiconductor industry becoming increasingly vital to the global economy, Singapore is positioning itself as a key partner in India’s growing electronics manufacturing
Singapore is intensifying its collaboration with India across multiple sectors, including semiconductor manufacturing in India, digital technology, and green energy, as part of efforts to deepen their bilateral relationship. Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, during his visit to India, revealed new initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth and technological advancements between the two countries.
Exploring new avenues in semiconductor manufacturing
One of the key highlights of President Shanmugaratnam’s visit was Singapore’s focus on helping India develop a semiconductor ecosystem. With the semiconductor industry becoming increasingly vital to the global economy, Singapore is positioning itself as a key partner in India’s growing electronics manufacturing. President Shanmugaratnam emphasized that Singapore is keen to collaborate with India to build a robust semiconductor industry that would serve as a catalyst for India’s future technological and industrial growth. By working together, both countries aim to drive the semiconductor industry growth in India, an essential step toward India becoming a global leader in advanced manufacturing.
Digital and financial collaboration on the horizon
In addition to manufacturing, Singapore is exploring innovative digital solutions that could further integrate both countries’ financial sectors. Shanmugaratnam spoke about the possibility of creating a data corridor between India’s Gift City and Singapore, facilitating secure data exchanges between financial institutions. The proposed corridor aims to strengthen the trust and transparency between the two nations, promoting smoother cross-border financial transactions and investments.
Energy and sustainability at the forefront
Sustainability is also high on the agenda. Singapore and India are collaborating on renewable energy solutions, with a specific focus on green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel, and ammonia. Shanmugaratnam expressed admiration for India’s commitment to renewable energy and noted that Singapore’s expertise in green technologies would be instrumental in supporting India’s ambitious sustainability targets.
Additionally, the partnership aims to enhance India’s eastern states—particularly Odisha and Assam—through investments in infrastructure, logistics, and petrochemicals, leveraging the region’s natural resources for industrial growth.
Celebrating 60 years of diplomatic ties
The visit also marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to mutual growth and prosperity. President Shanmugaratnam and Indian President Droupadi Murmu jointly launched a logo to commemorate this milestone. The celebrations, planned throughout the year, will include a series of high-level exchanges and events designed to further strengthen the friendship between the two nations.
The strengthening of India-Singapore ties reflects a shared vision for long-term prosperity, as both countries look to cooperate in areas critical to technological innovation, sustainable development, and economic expansion. With both nations actively pursuing new partnerships, the future of their bilateral relations is poised for continued growth and success.
