In a significant leadership transition, Sonata Software announced that CEO Samir Dhir will step down on May 8, 2026. Dhir, who assumed the role in April 2022, has opted not to seek reappointment, citing a need to focus on personal priorities.
Rajsekhar Datta Roy, the company's current Chief Delivery Officer, has been appointed as the new CEO for a three-year term. Roy becomes the fourth leader in the company's history, following Sanjay Viswanathan, P Srikar Reddy, and Dhir.
This transition marks the first major leadership change at an Indian IT services firm in over a year. The last comparable appointment occurred at LTIMindtree in early 2025, when Venu Lambu assumed the CEO role.
Sonata Software enters this transition from a position of financial strength. Under Dhir’s leadership, the company achieved a robust $1.2 billion in annual revenue, reflecting a 15.46% year-on-year growth rate that underscores the effectiveness of his tenure.
Industry analysts view this as a carefully planned succession rather than a reactive measure. Phil Fersht, CEO of HFS Research, noted that the smooth handover provides the incoming CEO with a "cleaner runway" to execute his strategic vision immediately.
Roy’s mandate is clear: accelerate rather than stabilize. The board expects him to move beyond maintaining current operations, focusing instead on converting the company's modernization and artificial intelligence initiatives into tangible market differentiation and sustained growth.
The pressure is now on Roy to leverage Sonata’s existing foundation to drive stronger deal momentum. As the mid-market IT sector becomes increasingly crowded, Roy’s ability to turn the company’s AI narrative into a consistent competitive advantage will be the defining challenge of his three-year term.
