Think Global, Act local
Mosfet Power Systems started its operations in the year 1996. Dealing only with Power Electronics Equipments – UPS––since 1996 and distributing the entire range of compact UPS to South Tamil Nadu, they have now become the major player in this particular field. In the last fiscal, the company touched a turnover of Rs.2 crore.

Being innovative is what Shankar has always strived for. Having experience in several IT hardware companies from 1992 to 1995, Shankar finally decided to start his own company exclusively in power electronics equipments. For him, innovation is not just about inventions. It is about new ideas and responding to new trends and market conditions, or improving existing products and services. He believes that businesses that innovate have better productivity performance, grow faster, and generate higher quality, higher paying jobs and also helps in capturing the market. When he started this company, nobody was exclusively focussing on UPS industry in this region. So, he decided to concentrate on UPS and make a mark in the business scenario.

Attached with Compact UPS through their Chennai regional office, they are now catering to nearby areas also. Shankar says, “Our main business lays with IT channel partners only. However, we have some direct Government sector, Corporate and Vertical accounts too.” The home segment is the main focus area as my territory does not have big industrial or corporate clients.

Right now, the company is distributing to 160 channel partners in the entire down south Tamil Nadu districts such as Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari. His biggest strength lies in the fact that he is focussing only on UPS with his channel partners and never does any sales in IT hardware. Hence, all the channel partners are supporting him for their requirements of all kinds of UPS.

Working with five electrical engineers and two marketing guys, he reposes full faith in all his vendors. Having a relationship for more than 11 years now, he does not expect and demand anything from them. For him, they are 101 per-cent cooperative.

For him, the year 2007 has entered with big hopes and aspirations. He has already started his operations with the neighbouring territory Kerala after VAT was implemented in the entire country and now he is expecting some good corporate and vertical accounts to enter.

Finally…
Shankar is President of the Computer Dealers’ Association, Tirunelveli; Executive Committee Member, Confederation of Information Technology Traders’ Association, Tamil Nadu and is also the Director of New Generation, Rotary Club of Tirunelveli west. “Think Globally but Act locally” seems to be the mantra behind his growing success!
