Texas Instruments (TI) introduced the lead-acid battery management gas gauge integrated circuit with TI’s proprietary Impedance Track capacity measurement technology for lead acid batteries bq34z110 gas gauge IC.

It comes in a small 14-pin package supporting multi-cell lead-acid battery packs with battery voltages of 4 V, 12 V, 24 V, 48 V and even higher. This gauge supports batteries used in mobile and stationary applications like medical instruments, wireless base stations and telecom shelters, e-bikes, inverters and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).

Abhishek Kumar, Business Development Manager, Power Management Products, Texas Instruments (India), said, "In India, lead acid continues to be the preferred chemistry for batteries. With the countries’ growing needs for energy and transportation, there is significant demand for UPS, inverters and automobiles. TI’s bq34z110 gas gauge IC, is a compact, integrated solution that can be made to monitor and display the battery capacity accurately. This solution offers flexibility to the end equipment manufacturers to easily adapt the gauge to meet their different design requirements."

The gauge with Impedance Track technology can maintain up to a 95-per cent accurate capacity measurement for the entire life of the battery. This gauge has easy set-up configuration.

The bq34z110 fuel gauge for lead acid-based batteries is available now in a 14-pin, 5-mm x 6-mm TSSOP package, priced at US$2.30 in quantities of 1,000.
