Users will find new options in profile settings alongside the existing choices of gallery, avatar, or AI-generated images, enhancing personalization and cross-platform integration.
Meta is testing a new WhatsApp feature that allows users to import their profile pictures directly from Instagram or Facebook, simplifying personalization and creating a seamless cross-platform experience across Meta’s ecosystem.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, the feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.21.23) and is currently being tested with select users. A wider rollout is expected in the coming weeks, making it easier for millions of users to sync their social media profiles without manually updating each platform.
Once rolled out, users will be able to access this feature by navigating to profile settings within WhatsApp. In addition to the existing options—capturing a new photo, selecting one from the gallery, creating an avatar, or using an AI-generated image—two new options for importing images from Instagram and Facebook will appear. This update will streamline profile management for users active across multiple Meta-owned platforms.
The move aligns with Meta’s ongoing strategy to unify its social media platforms, enhancing cross-platform integration and improving user convenience. By eliminating repetitive profile updates, the feature also strengthens Meta’s goal of providing a cohesive and connected digital identity for its users.
Why this matters:
This feature not only saves time but also benefits creators, businesses, and individuals who prefer consistent branding and identity across social media platforms. It could also pave the way for future cross-app personalization features, making Meta’s ecosystem more interconnected than ever. Currently available only to beta testers, this highly anticipated feature is expected to be part of an upcoming global update for Android and iOS devices.
