Zomato.com has now launched a mobile application for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The search application allows users to search for nearby restaurants based on the user's location.
Available for free on the iTunes store, the application replicates all features of the website and lets the user look at the menus, contact details, reviews, photographs, location and discounts for restaurants on the phone itself. The application recorded over 1,000 downloads within the first 3 hours of its launch and generated a large amount of buzz on social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook. Zomato.com, which gets 600,000 visitors every month on its website, has now become the only Indian Local Search player to have an application on all major smartphone platforms - Android, BlackBerry as well as iOS.
The website is nearly three years old and is present in nine cities across India - Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. Zomato recently raised an investment of Rs.4.7 crore from Info Edge (Naukri.com group) to fund its product development and marketing.
Deepinder Goyal, Co-Founder & CEO, Zomato, said, "We are the first restaurant portal and local search player in the country to develop an app for all three smartphone platforms. With the iOS launch, we can now effectively increase our reach to nearly the entire smartphone user base in India. Users will be able to enjoy all the functionalities of our website on the iOS Zomato application."
