The upcoming iPhone 17 Air is most likely to be offered with a 6.6 inch display with Dynamic Island. Further, the decrease in thickness is also likely to come with a few compromises in other elements including the removal of the physical SIM card tray. This could mean the iPhone 17 Air switching entirely to eSIM technology.
Notably, Apple has been selling iPhones without a physical SIM card tray in the US since the iPhone 1.
iPhone 17 Air updates
The iPhone 17 Air will reportedly come with some compromises, including a smaller battery and only a single camera. Apple’s development of the thinnest iPhone aims to achieve its sleek profile by giving it a single rear camera feature.
Furthermore, Apple is also planning to remove the bottom-edge speaker, which is currently a staple of recent iPhones. The device will instead feature only one speaker located in the earpiece due to space constraints.

Connectivity may also see a change, as the device is rumoured to use an Apple-designed 5G modem that may not support ultra-fast mmWave 5G, potentially resulting in slower data speeds compared to Qualcomm’s current modems.
Battery life is another concern, as the Apple iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to house a smaller battery than its predecessors. Reports suggest that Apple is struggling to fit a sufficiently large battery into the device’s ultra-thin chassis.
Despite these compromises, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to promise impressive hardware. It will likely feature the A19 chip for enhanced performance and energy efficiency, and 8GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence features. An aluminium frame will ensure durability while contributing to the device’s lightweight design.
iPhone 17 Air release date
As for the launch timeline, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September 2025.
