Initially piloted in Delhi, the system auto-converts cyber fraud complaints involving losses over ₹10 lakh into FIRs, regardless of jurisdiction.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched the e-Zero FIR system, a digital initiative under the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), to fight rising cybercrime and support victims of financial fraud. This system supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a 'Cyber Secure Bharat' and aims to make cyber law enforcement faster, smarter, and more efficient.
As a pilot project in Delhi, e-Zero FIR will automatically register complaints involving losses above ₹10 lakh, submitted via the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or helpline 1930, as Zero FIRs. These will be instantly recorded at Delhi's e-Crime Police Station and forwarded to the correct local cyber police station, no matter where the crime happened. This is enabled by integration with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) and Delhi Police’s e-FIR system.

The initiative aligns with new provisions under the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), allowing FIR registration across jurisdictions. Victims can also visit their local cyber station within three days to convert a Zero FIR into a regular FIR.
Key benefits of e-Zero FIR include:
Faster registration of cyber fraud cases
Quick fund freezing and recovery
Better tracking of cybercriminals
Stronger digital law enforcement
Amit Shah has shared that this initiative reflects the Modi government’s commitment to building a robust and responsive cybersecurity grid. As India embraces deeper digital integration, especially in finance and governance, this reform marks a critical step in making law enforcement systems cyber-resilient.
This reform tackles delays in FIR filings and empowers users with real-time action against cybercriminals. As the system is monitored in Delhi, other States and Union Territories are preparing for a national rollout. If successful, e-Zero FIR could serve as a global model for smart policing and technology-driven justice, moving India closer to a cyber-safe future.
