C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), a research and Development organisation of the Department of Information Technology, Government of India, has been working on the design and development of advanced Products and Technology for the strategic users with a commendable record of know-how transfer and large production turn over for quite some time now. It has been highly successful in developing total indigenous solution for Digital Mobile Radio Technology based on TETRA Standard.
Sponsored by DIT, C-DAC has been working on the TETRA technology for a decade with 250 engineer-years of effort. It has also been working with Indian industries and foreign technology partners for marketing this technology.
The TETRA products and Technologies developed by C-DAC are TETRA Base station & Portable TETRA Base stations (PTBS – 402B), TETRA Handheld/ Vehicle mount Radio, PSTN GATEWAY, TETRA Communication System for Disaster Application – “DHRUV” and Distress Call Response Management. Base station is a wireless communications station installed at a fixed location and used to communicate with wireless TETRA handhelds or vehicle mount terminals. TETRA Handheld/ Vehicle mount Radio is a mobile digital radio designed as per the ETSI standard for PMR users. The PSTN GATEWAY facilitates Voice Communication between the TETRA network subscribers and external network subscribers. Distress Call Response Management is a key factor in any Police Security system and aims at developing an automated Distress Call Response management System that provides an electronic interface to the “Dial 100” plan.
TETRA devised by ETSI is the open standard for professional mobile radio. TETRA combines cellular mobile telephony, packet data and digital mobile radio together on one open cellular platform to offer a variety of services and supports both voice and data for individual and group communications.
