CRIS leverages Oracle Tuxedo to deliver High Performance

The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) has implemented Oracle Tuxedo and Oracle WebLogic Server for its Freight Operations Information System (FOIS), to deliver a high-performance, highly reliable and flexible solution that could scale to meet steep increases in freight and passenger traffic.

Oracle Tuxedo is a key element within Oracle’s application grid offerings, foundation-level middleware that enables dynamically adjustable sharing of resources across application needs for greater operational efficiency, performance, and consolidation of infrastructure. Tuxedo, the application server for C/C++/COBOL-based applications, is the premier platform for distributed transaction processing, with unmatched reliability, scalability, and performance.

"Our association with CRIS goes back a long way. We are glad that CRIS received this award – it recognizes their leadership in IT adoption, which has helped transform Indian Railways’ success,” said Shailender Kumar, Vice-President, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle India. “Oracle provides middleware solutions to several organizations in banking, manufacturing, professional services, government and telecom in India to enable them to create and run agile, intelligent business applications and maximize IT efficiency.”

The FOIS uses Oracle Tuxedo for distributed transaction processing and Oracle WebLogic Server for reporting. The new system has allowed CRIS to support this growth in freight business without increasing the overall number of freight wagons. CRIS was recently recognized for this innovative deployment of Oracle Tuxedo and Oracle WebLogic Server as one of the winners of the 2009 Oracle Innovation Awards for Oracle Application Grid.
