Ice-Cream Sandwich arrives

Google and Samsung have taken the wraps off of the former's newest Galaxy Nexus and the OS - Ice Cream Sandwich, also the latest update to its Android mobile platform. The new operating system should eventually merge Android's tablet OS (version 3.0, aka Honeycomb) with the platform's smartphone OS (version 2.3, aka Gingerbread). The main feature of the new OS is believed to be the brand new Roboto typeface.

The Galaxy Nexus comes equipped with a 4.65-inch, 1280×720 super AMOLED screen at 720p resolution and a 1.2GHz dual core processor. It also comes provided with the usual image-capture suspects: front- and back-facing cameras at 5 and 1.3 megapixels, respectively. It has a redesigned user interface with improved multi-tasking, notifications, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC support and a full web browsing experience. It also features software navigation buttons. It has Face Unlock which uses facial recognition to unlock your phone. It is designed to provide a "pure Google," experience. It also features a number of Google Mobile services, including: Android Market, Gmail, Google Maps 5.0 with 3D maps and turn-by-turn navigation, Google Earth, Movie Studio, YouTube, syncing with Google Calendar, and a redesigned Google app.

GALAXY Nexus is to be available in the U.S., Europe, and Asia beginning in November and gradually will be introduced in other global markets.
