To deal with issues relating to citizen-centric services such as passports, Haj and visa, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) India has announced to launch a smartphone app soon. According to a recent report, the Ministry will launch this app by mid-July. MEA expects that this app will be a resource to connect media, students, scholars, diplomats, travellers and the average citizen intending to get information or assistance from the Ministry of External Affairs. The app will link with Google Maps to provide the user with directions to the nearest passport office.

MEA official said, With smartphone connections booming and set to grow to 150 million, the MEA has bet on integrating all its numerous websites into one single smart app.

For those who are travelling to India, the app will help with visa guidelines, types of visa services. Apart from this, users will also get access to various documentaries, public-lecture series, etc that belong to the Ministry’s public diplomacy division’s database.

Further, the new mobile application will provide instructions on how to apply for passport and will give information about the documents required. For those planning to perform Haj, the application will provide entire details about their flight, their stay in Saudi Arabia, etc. Pilgrims and travellers on the Kailash Mansarovar yatra will be able to access all the information about the annual pilgrimage that the MEA puts out, including information on medical check-ups and confirming their dates of departure.
