Moj Hits 500 Million Downloads, Doubles Revenue

Moj, India’s homegrown short-video platform operated by Mohalla Tech, has crossed 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store, a landmark moment in its rapid rise since launching in 2020. The company also reported doubling its revenue, underscoring momentum in both reach and monetisation.

Born in the weeks after India banned TikTok and other Chinese apps, Moj was built for the country’s vast multilingual audience, leaning into regional content, local trends and culturally rooted storytelling across 15 Indian languages.

Over four years it has built a community of more than three million creators, powering over a billion video plays every day. That scale has made it India’s leading regional short-video platform and a magnet for advertisers.

A key growth engine has been ad-supported, episodic micro-dramas introduced last year. After their rollout, daily time spent per user more than doubled, deepening engagement and opening fresh monetisation avenues.

The creator economy is central to the story. Moj’s platform now distributes earnings approaching ₹100 crore annually to creators, turning content production into a genuine livelihood and reinforcing the flywheel of talent and audience.

Advertisers are increasingly drawn to Moj’s micro-drama inventory, which blends branded serialised content with native commerce integrations, a format well suited to India’s vernacular-first, mobile-led entertainment habits.

CEO and co-founder Ankush Sachdeva said the milestone reflects the trust and engagement of users nationwide. With strong growth, an expanding advertising business and a sibling micro-drama app, QuickTV, gaining traction, Moj is positioning itself as a durable force in India’s digital entertainment landscape.
