Union Bank has modernised its credit card issuing infrastructure in Sri Lanka with BPC SmartVista, deploying a unified payments platform designed to strengthen control over product development, integrations, data and customer experience.
The implementation forms part of Union Bank’s broader digital transformation strategy. By moving away from a legacy environment hosted outside Sri Lanka, the bank gains greater control over its card technology and data while reducing dependence on third-party infrastructure.
Nisala Kodippili, Chief Technology Officer, Union Bank, said the new platform provides a highly configurable environment that can adapt to evolving business requirements without lengthy development cycles. SmartVista’s open APIs also simplify integration with core banking platforms, digital channels and surrounding systems.
For customers, the modernised platform is expected to support more personalised card products, stronger transaction security, integrated fraud protection and faster introduction of new services.
Malinda Perera, Vice President – Head of Cards & Retail Products, Union Bank, said greater ownership of technology and data was essential to building a stronger credit card business. The bank expects its credit card portfolio to record substantial year-on-year growth in the coming years.
Subash Chandra Bowse, Country Director – Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and The Maldives, BPC, said Sri Lanka’s banking sector is evolving rapidly and financial institutions increasingly require payment infrastructure that combines control, security, scalability and innovation.
Looking ahead, Union Bank plans to expand its card-issuing capabilities, broaden support for international payment schemes and introduce new customer propositions. Powered by SmartVista, the bank aims to accelerate innovation while delivering secure and enhanced credit card experiences as Sri Lanka’s digital payments ecosystem continues to evolve.
