As India's compute demand accelerates, Island Computing is building the orchestration and platform layer that unites data centres into a single fault-tolerant system. Vishal Sirohi, CEO and Founder, Island Computing, outlines how architectural efficiency, provably correct systems and sovereign infrastructure are turning fragmented capacity into a national-scale digital platform.
Turning India's Data Centres into a National System
Data centres are the base layer of India's digital economy. What turns them into an engine is the platform above: the distributed control and data plane, orchestration, identity, and audit that convert racks and GPUs into products builders consume. Island Computing is that layer. We are forming partnerships with India's top data centre companies to bring them onto the platform as availability zones in one fault-tolerant distributed system: customers spread workloads across multiple data centres, and India's compute aggregates into a hyperscale-class system of its own. The same fabric federates scattered GPU pockets into a shared pool, so larger models and workloads can run in a GPU-short world, with capacity shareable on demand with educational institutions and AI companies like Sarvam.
Engineering Efficiency, Resilience and Sovereignty by Design
Efficiency is an architectural property before it is a procurement line. Multi-tenant pooling and overallocation deliver higher utilisation than the bare-metal, single-tenant systems common in India: the same workload runs on less hardware and less power. Resilience comes from a control and data plane fault-tolerant across data centres. On security, we have launched frameworks giving customers stronger control over agent runtimes and a clear chain of authority for autonomous actors. Our R&D goes further: we are building systems in mathematical programming languages, TLA+, P, and Lean. Models now write code and models find bugs; the next paradigm is provably correct systems that models cannot break. Sovereignty is inherent: the full stack sits in India, under Indian law, aligned to DPDP, RBI, SEBI, CERT-In, and MeitY direction.
Building the Platform Layer for India's Compute Future
The AI boom is filling data centres today; demand at this pace will not sustain itself. The durable opportunity is the layer above: partnerships that turn capacity into platforms, the way our data centre partners become availability zones of a national system. Power management and sustainability are real opportunities. The larger one is hardware self-reliance: the Semiconductor Mission is the right start, and it needs matching investment in data centre R&D, efficiency, and hardware scaling. India's cloud spend is on a path from US$26.4 billion in 2026 to US$60-80 billion by 2030. We are building the platform layer and the partnerships that make every Indian data centre part of something larger.
