T-Fiber to Link Remaining 3,000 Gram Panchayats in 8 Months

Telangana aims to connect the remaining 3,000 gram panchayats with high-speed optical fibre under the T-Fiber project within the next six to eight months. This will complete coverage of all approximately 12,000 gram panchayats in the state.

Anudeep Durishetty, Joint Secretary in the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Department, shared the update. He noted that nearly 9,000 gram panchayats have already been connected through T-Fiber and Phase-2 of the BharatNet programme, achieving about 80% progress.

The initiative is managed by the Telangana Fiber Grid Corporation Ltd, a special purpose vehicle. So far, more than 43,000 km of underground optical fibre has been laid across the state.

State government institutions and departments have been directed to use T-Fiber’s secure network. This mandate has significantly cut costs, with officials stating that for every ₹100 spent earlier, the expense is now only ₹40, all directed to the state-owned network.

T-Fiber is expected to eventually provide fibre-to-the-home and fibre-to-the-enterprise connectivity to over 90 lakh households and more than one lakh public and private enterprises, government offices, and institutions.

The project receives support from the Ministry of Communications’ Digital Bharat Nidhi. Officials plan to collaborate further with the Department of Telecommunications for BharatNet Phase 3 to cover any remaining uncovered villages, strengthening Telangana’s digital infrastructure.
